Angela Yu – Pathway to Partnership (CIB Accountants and Advisers)

Becoming a partner at CIB is a milestone I’ve long aspired to reach. Now that I’m here and celebrating the achievement, I can’t help but reflect on the journey that brought me to this point. It’s been a path marked by self-realisation, ongoing learning and growing, and the unwavering support of incredible mentors and colleagues along my journey.

The Beginning

I arrived in Australia 20 years ago as an ambitious overseas student from China. Adjusting to a new country came with its own challenges, from navigating cultural nuances to mastering a new language, every challenge has made me stronger and more resilient.

After completing my degrees, I gained valuable experience working at professional firms such as BDO, Moore Stephens and Deloitte. These experiences provided me with a solid foundation, expanded my network and allowed me to further develop my skills and expertise.

In 2015, I found my profession home at CIB as an audit manager. It didn’t take me long to realise that CIB was the right place for me to thrive professionally and personally. From the beginning, I was committed to learning and excelling in my role as a leader and contributing to the firm’s growth. The support of the partners and colleagues at CIB was instrumental in helping me overcome any hurdles and continuously improve.

Rising Through the Ranks

Over the years, as an Audit Manager and leader at CIB, I have worked diligently to build my team and a strong business foundation. Guided and supported by the partners group at CIB, I have been provided with opportunities to take on more significant roles. In 2017, I was introduced to the DFK International family. Since then, I have been privileged to attend and contribute to various DFK International, DFK APAC and DFK ANZ conferences. As I become more experienced, I was honoured to join the DFK ANZ Audit Committee in 2022 and a member of the DFK APAC Emerging Leaders subcommittee in 2023. These roles allowed me to contribute on a broader scale and deepen my involvement within the DFK network. Working closely with industry leaders in the DFK network has been instrumental in further developing my career and enhancing the value we deliver to our clients.

Outside of work, I have been actively engaging in community outreach such as participating as a mentor in the Lucy Mentoring Program organised by Macquarie University, being a guest lecturer at Macquarie University MBA classes, committing to professional networking events. All these engagements and commitments have provided invaluable opportunities for me to gain more experience and make a positive impact.

A New Chapter

In April 2024, I achieved a major career milestone: becoming a Partner at CIB. This promotion is more than a change of the title in the email signature; it symbolises the trust and recognition from the partners, my mentors and peers. It further marks the beginning of a new chapter of my career where I am determined to drive growth and innovation within the firm.

Becoming a partner is the start of an exciting new chapter. I am ready to rise to new challenges and elevate our firm to greater heights. I am incredibly grateful for the support and trust placed in me by the CIB family and I look forward to contributing to the success of our firm and the greater DFK network.
